Acne Scarring
When treating acne scarring, the first consideration is whether or not the patient is still experiencing breakouts. If they are, then the acne condition must be brought under control first.
Before you seek treatment, it is important to understand that no technology currently exists that can completely erase acne scars. However, there are many options available that can markedly improve the appearance of scarred skin and assist in your recovery. You may also need to repeat treatments over the years, as acne scars often become more noticeable as the skin ages and collagen loss occurs.
MILD ACNE SCARRING:
Clear + Brilliant laser treatment is the primary treatment for mild acne scarring. Clear + Brilliant uses non-ablative technology to gently resurface your skin without downtime or recovery. The acne-scarred areas of your face will be targeted for heavier treatment to remodel skin collagen and improve the appearance of mild acne scarring. A series of these will be prescribed depending upon your individual needs and usually are performed at one month intervals.
MODERATE ACNE SCARRING:
Fraxel laser treatment is also a fractional resurfacing laser treatment but penetrates much more deeply and therefore can be more effective for the deep dermal remodeling which is necessary to improve moderate scarring. A series of Fraxel treatments will be required and customized to your needs. Fraxel has some “soft downtime” mainly consisting of swelling in the first few days and a chapped appearance to the skin for up to 2 weeks. Areas that are treated more heavily may appear red and raw for several days following Fraxel treatment.
SEVERE ACNE SCARRING:
In cases of severe acne scarring, Fraxel laser treatments may be followed by dermal fillers to help to elevate pits and depressions for the best result.
